Clamp the tool bit in the jig, and work the jig back and forth across the grinding wheel keeping the face of the jig and the face of the wheel parallel to each other. This jig will speed up grinding 60 degree points on your tool bits.
To add side rake, I orient the bit to the right of the wheel with the left side of the tool uppermost and grind the tool top until the wheel meets the edge less than 1/4quot; of top width need be ground. Then, this area is held against the side of the wheel to flatten it by grinding only the right side of the tool.

The white ones are nice because its easy to see when they are loaded up and need dressing, but the gray ones are fine too. You will want finer grits than typically come with the machine. They usually come with something like 36 grit and 60 grit. For HSS tool bit grinding, I like 60 and 120.

Dip the tool in coolant frequently to keep it from overheating and annealing. Any discoloration on the bit indicates it may no longer be hardened.
